Civil Procedure Examples Explanations Glannon 9780735599376 Books

I got an A in Civ Pro, and I owe it mostly to Glannon. This book makes things MAKE SENSE. If you are mired in personal jurisdiction hell, order this immediately. I ordered it a week before finals, and spent all of my study time just reading the sections that corresponded to my class topics. The hypos are great for testing your comprehension, so don't skip them or cheat. My recommendation would be to order this the second you feel lost in Civ Pro, and use it along with the casebook readings to prepare for class and exams. Don't wait as long as I did, and at least one class will feel a lot more comfortable.

Are you taking civ pro? If yes, then this is your casebook. Things like Erie will make you wonder why the hell you went to law school in the first place (same reason as everyone else, we're not smart enough to get into medical school). The E&E does a good job of making very complicated concepts easier to understand. There isn't a magic bullet, but this book does a much better job than any casebook out there of laying out the things that you actually need to know about the cases that you read (novel concept, right?).

Anyways, this book is a must-have 1L book. If I were to choose between either this book or my actual assigned casebook, the E&E wins every time.
I would call this book "Civil Procedures for Dummies." Actually, it was just what I needed to sort through the convoluted language in my Civil Procedures Text book. This book walks you through the topics step-by-step & is a very easy read. A wonderful change of pace from all my law school textbooks. The only problem is trying to fit one more book into the ridiculously busy schedule 1st year law students endure.
This book is called an Example & Explanation book. It helps readers/students who are trying to learn, or who are enrolled in a Civil Procedure course understand the important principles and concepts relating to the various laws and theories of Civil Procedure. It is a great study aid/supplement for students enrolled in Civil Procedure. The text clearly explains the laws governing Civil Procedure and how the laws work in factual scenarios. Each chapter covers an important concept of Civil Procedure and gives questions, along with answers, to aid the reader in understanding how the laws and theories of Civil Procedure apply.
Dear 1Ls you should own this. While it's not the most exciting read (duh, you're in law school), if you read this cover to cover civil procedure will make a lot more sense to you. Glannon does a great job of explaining how the elements (personal jurisdiction, subject matter jurisdiction, venue, joinder, etc.) fit together. Glannon's E&E on torts is also amazing.
For 14 weeks, I could not tell you a single thing about civil procedure. I was always lost in class. Over two days, during the "reading period" before exams started, I read the book cover-to-cover and outlined the material. Needless to say, I passed the class, scoring athe the curve. So imagine if I had also retained some knowledge during 14 weeks of class. Basically, this book is a must have for civil procedure.
I used this to prep before my first year of law school. That was very helpful. I started off quite strong in this course. I wish I had used it more during the semester. Instead I very foolishly went down the road of reading the casebook, prepping for class, expending too much effort on my memo and getting all wrapped up in the day to day hectic nonsense of law school.
Had I done it right I would have never opened my case book. Even going to class was a waste of time. In the end all that matters is your ability to take exams. In May all my clasmates were reading this book.
Most Civ Pro exams allow you to take the rule book into the final but not any other book. I recommend using this book to learn the material, then take two or three Civ pro practice tests per week for about two months before your final. Don't get caught up in all the 1L madness.
My civ pro prof was AMAZING! Loved him. This book didn't really help me with his class much. He touched on things the book didn't touch on and he did the course sort of backwards. Starting with FRCP and rules 8-26 then at the end did jurisdiction. Civ pro can be FRCP heavy and also rule heavy. This won't help with that.
